I’m not exactly sure what this says about our society, but when my daughter went off to college her dorm room was approximately the same size as a prison cell, and furnished nearly the same as well.
Besides the beds and two pressboard desks, the only other furniture was a 40 in. wide by 36 in. high chest made of the same spongy board.
Students shared the six tiny drawers that were roughly the size of a ring box. Having little space for clothing shone one big light on bamboo clothes. Piece for piece, folded bamboo clothing took up less room than cotton or synthetics. And they came out of the drawers with fewer wrinkles.
We also learned that my daughter’s cellmate (oops) had less than hygienic habits. Slob. SO what are the odds that a fold and nest neatasaurous like my daughter would be thrown in with an exact opposite?
Before long even the silverfish turned brass. We reminded our daughter that everyone has good and bad points. My daughter couldn’t rest until she scoured the room and put her new twin bamboo sheets on her bed to make her feel especially clean and eco-friendly.
Sadly, she couldn’t entirely cleanse the place of her roommate. Although the roomy was a size three, and our daughter ranged from 6-8, the girl asked to borrow some articles of clothing. Though inches smaller than my girl, the roommate possessed an ego far larger than my girl.
Of course the little pest glammed unto my daughter’s bamboos. After the girl left, we got the call. What do you tell your baby when someone takes her most personal belongings and wears them? Telling her she wouldn’t be forced to burn the clothes or roomy doesn’t really help.
Emotion aside, bamboo is one of the best choices for clothing, especially for college kids. It is easily folded and more easily fit into drawers. Bamboo bedding is especially nice for those that tend to sweat a lot or don’t get dibs on the shower often enough. Bamboo also possesses unique wicking properties to wick away sweat and keep clothes and sheets feeling fresh and odor-free – an added bonus in any dorm room. Nice to have socks that can help fight athlete’s foot and other bacteria.
Now it’s no replacement for a piggy roommate, but bamboo is versatile, comfortable and fashionable. Our girl gave her mate a pair of bamboo socks and a bamboo t-shirt. Didn’t get the crusts of pizza out of the computer, but bamboo is at least a good start.
Bamboo to the Rescue!
